b'LUSO Community Services AwardWinner: Type Diabeat-itType Diabeat-it was initially introduced to LUSO in 2020 through theCity of London. At the time they were working with families in theBoullee neighbourhood who were experiencing racism within thecommunity, were having difficulty meeting their basic needs, and hadlimited knowledge of programs and services within their community.As LUSO also works with individuals and families in the Boulleecommunity, we welcomed the opportunity to discuss a possiblepartnership.We have partnered with Type Diabeat-it for the past 3years across various LUSO programs. Specifically, volunteers andstaff of Type Diabeat-it have supported LUSOs summer breakfastprogram, they have partnered through our Community Connectionsprogram to support healthy cooking for adults and youth. We haveappreciated the partnership and look forward to continuing ourpartnership and to explore new ways to work collaboratively in thecoming years.The Gabi Schotter Red Cardinal AwardWinner: Dylar SidoDylar has an amazing personality, and many positive traits. She is kind,outgoing, respectful, open-minded, and is a passionate individualwhen it comes to helping others. Within the community she is anupstander, always looking out for those around her, making sure herpeers are being kind and everyone feels included. While doing all ofthis, she has a major leadership role. For example, at LUSOsbreakfast program, not only did she help manage the childrensbehaviour, she also acted like a big sister to everyone and ensuredthey ate and encouraged them to come out of their shells and havefun. She advocates for respectful behaviour towards everyone andstands up for individuals when she inappropriate behaviour towardsthem.Dylar manages many responsibilities at home and in hercommunity. There are many (including her siblings, family and friends)who rely on her. Dylar was the perfect candidate for the GabiSchotter Award as she demonstrated leadership, respect, resiliencyand overall caring attitude.LUSO Community Services 332024-25 Impact Report'
