b'From Isolation to Connection: ThePower of Community in AgingWellAlthough they had not yet met, Carol andElanies stories were strikingly similar:both women were widows, both hadgrown children living in distant cities, andboth were searching for community andmeaningful connection. Despite thecomfort of occasional phone calls andthe hum of television in the background, the weight of isolation pressed heavily ontheir days. That began to change when each was introduced to LUSO Community ServicesSeniors Program at Beacock Library. The weekly gatheringsdesigned to fosterconnection and promote well-beingoffered a gentle invitation back into communitylife. Hesitant at first, they each decided to give it a try just for one week. Neither haslooked back since. Now, more than a year later, Carol and Elanie are cherished members of the program. This program didnt just give us something to doit gave us people to care about, they share with smiles. What began as a tentative step has blossomed into deepfriendships that extend beyond the weekly sessions. Together, and with new friends, they meet regularly for coffee, walks, and lunches, filling their days with laughter, companionship, and connection.Today, both women are known for their warmth and generosity. Just as they were oncewelcomed, Carol and Elanie now make it their mission to ensure new participants feelincluded and valued. For them, LUSOs Seniors Program is more than just a weeklysessionit is a circle of care that brings immense joy and enriches their daily lives.LUSO Community Services 142024-25 Impact Report'
