b'Finding a Voice through Supportand Community A young mother, new to Canada, hasbecome a familiar face at LUSOCommunity Services. With two youngchildren and limited English, she oftenfeels the weight of trying to provide forher family while adjusting to a newculture. Over the past year, this motherhas gone out of her way to connect withLUSOs Basic Needs stafftaking everyopportunity to practice her English andform connections when dropping herchildren off at school.Through these conversations, she has shared the difficulties of securing enoughfood for her family. LUSO staff have responded by ensuring that she receivesmonthly food hampers through our Emergency Food Cupboard, registering her forour Mobile Food Bank site located close to her home, and inviting her to attendcommunity events. Since she walks most places, the accessibility of theseresources has made a meaningful difference. This mother and her children have also benefited from LUSOs Good Food Boxes, our Winter Boots program, and our Summer Breakfast program. Attending Pop-UpMarkets and Community BBQs have supported food insecurity while alsoconnecting her to a community where friendships have blossomed. LUSOCommunity Services further supported this family by connecting them to aSettlement Worker to help navigate life in a new community.Although she often apologizes for her broken English, staff continue to reassure herthat her voice is heard, she is understood, and her family is valued. Her gratitudetowards LUSO is heartfeltshe feels that our programs have given her more thanresources and support; they have provided a true sense of belonging, inclusion, andcommunity.LUSO Community Services 82024-25 Impact Report'
