Everyday activitieslike visitinga shopping mall or riding the busfelt overwhelming. Without the ability tocommunicate or read street names, she often chose to walk long distances, even inthe harsh Canadian winter.Her life began to change when she connected with LUSO Community ServicesSettlement Counsellors. With guidance and support, she discovered essential servicesfor her family, including Ontario Works, the Canada Child Benefit, and energy andfinancial assistance programs. Slowly, she began to build the skills and confidence sheneeded not only to support her family but also to reclaim her own independence.Today, she proudly identifies as a confident woman who can communicate in English,manage paperwork and applications, and advocate for herself. She has applied forCanadian citizenship, scored an impressive 19 out of 20 on her test, and now holds adrivers license.Her growth has rippled outward, inspiring her daughter, her husband, and other womenwithin her community. What once seemed impossible is now her lived reality.
