This winter felt long.
For many children and families in our community, it brought more time indoors, fewer chances to connect, and limited opportunities to learn, grow, and belong.
One child walked into our Little Scientists program unsure of what to expect. Quiet and hesitant, she stayed close to her mother as other children explored hands-on activities, experiments, and learning games. But by the end of the session, she was asking questions, joining in, and proudly sharing what she had created.
That kind of moment may seem small, but after a long winter, it means so much. It is the beginning of confidence, connection, and hope.
At LUSO Community Services, we believe every child deserves a place where they feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to grow. Programs like Little Scientists help children build curiosity, literacy, and problem-solving skills while helping families feel more connected to their community.
Our Coffee House program creates that same sense of belonging for youth. What may look like a simple gathering often becomes a safe space where young people build friendships, develop leadership skills, and find mentors who encourage them to grow.
This winter, programs like YOLO, Shared Beginning, and Her’d Zine also helped children, youth, and families strengthen literacy, leadership, and community connection. These programs are more than activities, they are spaces where people can learn, share, and discover that they belong.
Through our Basic Needs programs, we also supported families during the March Break Breakfast Program, making sure children had access to healthy meals when school programs were not available. We rely heavily on community support to run programs like this, and your support makes everything possible.
As spring arrives, we are reminded that new beginnings are possible. Your support matters::
$20 helps a young girl create her own Her’d Zine, giving her a safe place to share her voice.
$50 provides materials for Little Scientists, turning curiosity into learning.
$100 supports a month of Coffee House sessions, helping youth build confidence and connection.
A larger gift helps sustain these programs throughout the year.
This spring, we invite you to help us continue this important work. Your donation supports children and youth programs that create safe, engaging spaces where learning happens, friendships begin, and confidence grows.
Every gift helps LUSO remain a place where families feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Please donate today and help new beginnings take root.
With gratitude,
LUSO Community Services Team
