Settlement Counselling

Description

Settlement Counsellors offer one-on-one sessions to provide support, advocacy, information, and referrals on settlement- and integration-related issues such as: housing, social assistance, health care, education, employment, the legal system, immigration, etc. In addition, group sessions are organized to address key and pertinent issues that support successful integration and community involvement.

Settlement Counsellors have two programs for newcomers needing settlement support. One provides support to Government-Assisted Refugees and Permanent Residents of Canada, while the other provides support to all newcomers and immigrants to Canada, regardless of immigration status or length of time in Canada.

Partnership with Glen Cairn Community Resource Centre allows LUSO Community Services access to provincially funded services which allows us to appoint a settlement counsellor to an evening shift every Wednesday, expanding our capacity of reach. Along with that, our settlement counsellor is able to hold group sessions that address key barrier that newcomers face. These group sessions are held at our office location once a month. For more information about Settlement Programs, contact Irena Sompaseuth, Director of Settlement Services via email: settlement [at] lusocentre.org (settlement[at]lusocentre[dot]org) OR via telephone: 519-452-1466 (office), 226-235-8351 (cell).

Services are provided in a variety of languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Nepali, and Urdu and interpreters are accessed as needed. For more information, or to book an appointment, contact our main line at 519-452-1466.
