

Children and Youth Programs: Tutoring/Homework Support: community based after school programs providing academic support for children in Grades 1 -8. Volunteers provide one-to-one and small group support. Program operates late September to mid May. Commitment is 1-2 afternoons per week for 1.5 hours. Shared Beginnings: A program providing early literacy development for children 0-6 years of age and their parents. Volunteers provide support in all aspects of the program. Program operates year round on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Commitment is 1-2 mornings per week for 2.5 hours. Reading and Parents Program (RAPP): A family literacy program in which literacy kits are lend to families and caregivers. Volunteers assist with kit preparation, promotion, and lending. Commitment required varies. After School programs: program facilitation for youth drop in, special interest groups, etc. Northeast Food Depot: This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to give back to the community but have limited time. Volunteers are needed to assist with all aspects of operations of the Northeast Food Depot. Duties include, setting up, loading and unloading food boxes, greeting clients, assisting with intake and clean-up. Food Depot operates the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10:00-3:00 pm. Northeast Community Development Program: Assists communities with the planning and development of programs and services. (Food Depot, Community classes (sewing), etc.) Volunteers assist with recording statistics; set up, implementation and clean up of programs. Commitment varies with program needs. Anti Hate & Anti Bias Program: Assists victims of hate incidents and bias activities by providing programming, support and advocacy and referral services. Volunteers assist with e-Bulletin translations. Commitment varies with program needs. Immigrant Focused Programs: Employment Outreach Program: Assists individuals, specifically foreign trained professionals, with their job search needs. Volunteers provide assistance through researching the local labour market and various resources for clients and writing reports to support the program. Commitment varies with program needs. General Odd Jobs/Maintenance: Volunteers are needed to assist with weekly and seasonal cleaning, yard work and other odd jobs. Flexible hours and days. Special Events/Fundraising: This is a great opportunity for a volunteer who cannot commit to a regular schedule. Help us with youth dances, community events and more. All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application Form, participate in an orientation session and successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Police Reference Check.
